WHERE WE WORK

Helios Education Foundation supports postsecondary attainment for all students, especially low-income and underrepresented communities, in Arizona and Florida.

Our focus on these two states derives from the sale of loan company Southwest Student Services Corporation, with the net proceeds funding the endowment of Helios. Southwest primarily supported students in Arizona and Florida. It was only fitting that Helios gave back to future students in Arizona and Florida by helping fund their educational journeys.

In Arizona, we are focused on supporting low-income and Latino students. The Latino population is the fastest-growing subpopulation in the state, and through data, we know that increasing achievement rates for low-income and Latino students is the most effective way to achieve equity for all students.

In Florida, we are focused on supporting low-income and Black students. We serve the West Central, Central and South Florida communities, providing funding to organizations in the following counties: Hillsborough County, Pinellas County, Osceola County and Orange County, Miami-Dade County and Broward County.

Florida’s Black population is the second largest in the state, following the white population, and one of the most at-risk when it comes to educational advancements. Through data, we know that increasing achievement rates for low-income and Black students is the most effective way to achieve equity for all students.
