Arizona high school seniors recognized at El Valle Puede Celebration

Seven students surprised with scholarships while marking the tip-off to Arizona Decision Day

PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, in partnership with Helios Education Foundation and the Arizona Board of Regents, hosted the El Valle Puede Celebration at PHX Arena for more than 1,400 high school seniors from across Arizona. The inspiring event recognized high school seniors as they prepare to graduate and continue their journeys in education and various career pathways.

Seven students were also honored at center court as this year’s El Valle Puede scholarship recipients, with five students awarded scholarships worth up to $20,000 and two students receiving scholarships of up to $5,000 to attend Arizona’s three state universities.

“We are proud to stand alongside the Class of 2025 as they take the next step in their educational journeys,” shared Vince Roig, Founding Chairman of Helios Education Foundation. “These students represent the future of our great state, and today’s event is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”

The El Valle Puede Celebration featured a college resource fair and remarks from Helios Education Foundation Founding Chairman Vince Roig, Helios Education Foundation Vice Chair Jane LaRocca Roig, Arizona Student Regent David Zaragoza and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. The event concluded with high-energy performances from Suns and Mercury entertainment and Latin hip-hop artist Xavi.

The event also served as the official tip-off to Arizona Decision Day, celebrated annually on May 1 aligned with National College Signing Day, to encourage students to take charge of their futures by making plans beyond high school—whether it’s college, trade school, military, or the workforce.

“I am honored to celebrate this exceptional class of high school seniors and their resilience, growth and potential,” said Regent Zaragoza. “Whether they embark on a journey at one of our state's three outstanding public universities or a community college, the possibilities ahead of them are limitless.”
