Expect More Arizona launched the Expect More Excellence Tour in January to spotlight what Arizonans are doing today to make progress toward world-class education and celebrate the kind of excellence the organization believes must be available to all students.

The Tour asked Arizonans to submit their examples of excellence from across the state to their website, and displayed them on an interactive map where you could view photos and videos from each submission. With nearly 200 submissions, Expect More Excellence Tour is travelling the state presenting Excellence Tour Spotlight Awards based on the submissions selected by regional committees.

Their first Tour stop was on April 11 in Yuma, and we’re excited to report that one of the Spotlight Award winners is a program very near to us at  Helios Education Foundation.

Ready Now Yuma is an initiative of Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) and Helios Education Foundation to ensure every student graduates prepared to succeed in college and career.  Their goal is to have every YUHSD student challenged, supported and prepared by a rigorous, high expectations program of study aligned with national and international academic standards.  Ready Now Yuma is unique because it makes a rigorous program of study available to every student, regardless of past academic performance and post-high school aspirations.  It also focuses on helping students master the key content knowledge and skills they need to succeed beyond high school and in today’s global economy.

The other winners in that region were I’m Going to College, a collaboration between Arizona Western College and Northern Arizona University Yuma Branch Campus, and Dateland Elementary, located 70 miles from Yuma.

Congratulations to all of the winners in the first region. To read more about the event, click here. Expect More Arizona will be celebrating more excellence in Arizona education across the state with three more Excellence Tour events. Stay tuned to for details.
