Tigers, Tide and Tampa Bay…oh my!
The momentum that engulfed Tampa Bay for both the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide could only be eclipsed by the impact the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation had in area classrooms by way of the Extra Yard For Teachers initiative. In addition to supporting classroom grants and promoting a college going culture among thousands of students, the CFP Foundation left a lasting legacy that continues to showcase the impact of sports, both on and off the field.
Extra Yard For Teachers, funded in part by Helios Education Foundation, in partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission and Florida College Access Network, produced College Ready Tampa Bay, a suite of programs that included College Application Week where nearly 60 high schools from throughout the region promoted the completion of college applications as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the first step in receiving financial assistance for college. In addition to receiving technical support and promotional materials from the Florida College Access Network, participating schools also received college banner kits from the College Football Playoff Foundation and up to $500 through DonorsChoose.org to support college application week and other activities that build a college-going culture.
By way of the College Football Playoff Foundation, its national partners and the entire Tampa Bay community, the real winners of the 2016 college football championship season are the numerous students who will pursue a postsecondary degree and find themselves winners in life.
